Soft Focus

Self-shooting is hard. Sometimes, for whatever reason, it just doesn’t come together like you hoped it would. This is one of those times… I struggled with the exposure and focus on all these images, but I’m taking comfort in the fact that in the 1950s all the images of actresses were in shot in soft focus, on purpose. It was considered flattering. Today people expect more and more of the images they consume. Well… here’s hoping you find this nostalgic and not annoying…

I’ve been investigating and investing in more and more tall clothing recently. This super snuggly cardigan is from New Look’s Tall range (via ASOS). Unfortunately it came out a little oddly coloured in each image – the close up (5th image down) gives a more accurate idea of the colour and material.

But the tall item I love most at the moment has to be my long length skinny jeans from M&S (the unsung hero of many an outfit of mine). In addition to being tall, I’m also pear shaped – so finding a pair of jeans that fits both my waist and my hips is a tricky business… somewhat like self shooting…

The tall blogging community recently got very excited when ASOS launched its tall range. A lot of brands associated with ASOS followed suit and there’s now a great range to choose from. Just before the range launched ASOS drip-fed some items into it’s stock and I spotted this longer-length dress – it really is the perfect length for me. Usually I have trouble finding waisted items that sit right with my body proportions – but no such issues with this dress. If you’re 5’10” or over I’d definitely check it out. My cat might not have been too impressed but I was.

A Rare Find

This is one of my all-time favourite outfits. It’s just so comfy to wear and believe it or not it works for both Summer and Autumn/Winter. When the temperature drops, I layer it up by wearing the shorts with brown tights, putting a white vest under the T-shirt and adding a red cardigan on top. (I’m lucky enough to be working in a creative industry where there’s quite a relaxed dress code, so I’ve worn this winter-version to work before.)

(How lovely does my Mum’s garden look in the evening sunshine?)

The T-Shirt is from Rare but I bought it at Luan Matthews (a boutique shop I go to often). You can’t see the full length here, but it is super-long. I always take it on holiday with me as it’s perfect for wearing over a bikini as a sort-of dress.

The shorts are a trusty old pair from New Look. I bought them a few years ago and they’re just starting to fray around the edges (and they’re looking a little crumpled here so sadly I don’t think I’ll be able to wear them to work much longer…)

P.S. Yes… I go barefoot a lot at home. It can be a bit risky with so many animals about, but what can I say? I live life on the edge!

Savvy Shopping: You won’t find Rare on the high street yet, but if you want to try before you buy then Topshop usually stock some items. Or if you just want to avoid delivery charges you can also find some lines on ASOS.

Hay Fever

I love this time of year. Even if we weren’t having such lovely weather, the English countryside always looks at it’s most beautiful in Summer. Specifically, the point just before they cut the hay – when the grass is lovely and tall like this.

I took these pictures in a field near my house, the dress is an old favourite – one of ‘Tesco’s Finest’ from their F&F range. It’s pretty versatile – I wore it to work that day but it’s great for spending time outdoors too (it goes well with wellies!)

The Not-Too-Short Shorts.

Having longer-than-average legs can make it somewhat difficult to find summer wear that fits (and doesn’t leave too much on show). Luckily though, New Look have recently released a bargainous, new tall range…

These boyfriend shorts fit me perfectly. And my cats seem to like them too…

…And then I got a bit carried away and bought this skirt too. Because, y’know, you can never have enough maxi skirts.
